Washington, D.C. (March 26, 2025) - Thomas Johnson, Executive Director of the Alliance for Save America’s 340B Program (ASAP 340B), issued the following statement concerning the updated membership of the  bipartisan 340B Working Group in the U.S. Senate:
“We applaud Senators Moran, Baldwin, Moore Capito, Kaine, Hickenlooper, and Mullin for their leadership in re-convening the bipartisan Senate 340B Working Group. This effort represents a meaningful step toward the comprehensive reform the 340B program urgently needs to fulfill its promise of supporting vulnerable patients and the safety-net providers who serve them.
“The 340B program has grown significantly since its inception and without guardrails, large healthcare systems and corporate middlemen have taken advantage of program savings, while vulnerable patients continue to face barriers to affordable medicines and care. We are encouraged to see a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers take a thoughtful and inclusive approach to modernizing the program.
“In the coming weeks, we look forward to engaging with lawmakers to discuss solutions that enhance transparency, strengthen accountability, prevent program abuse, and—most importantly—ensure patients directly benefit from 340B savings. This represents a pivotal opportunity to secure the future of a program that millions of Americans rely on for affordable medications and vital healthcare services."
Last year, bipartisan working group members solicited public feedback on a draft framework of 340B reform legislation. In our comments, we expressed support for a range of policies and statutory changes aligned with our core principles—focusing on increased program integrity, robust efforts to curb abuse while ensuring rural and safety-net providers can continue to benefit, and improved patient access to affordable medications for patients.
