West Terre Haute, Ind. – Today, the Alliance to Save America’s 340B Program (ASAP 340B) recognized Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-8) for his work on behalf of the nation’s health care safety net, the 340B program. ASAP 340B Executive Director Thomas Johnson presented Congressman Bucshon with the Saving America’s 340B Program Leadership Award at Valley Professionals Community Health Center (CHC) surrounded by health care providers, patients, and caregivers.
"We are thrilled to present the Saving America’s 340B Program Leadership Award to Congressman Larry Bucshon for his efforts to modernize the 340B program. Rep. Bucshon plays a pivotal role in ensuring that our health care system continues to serve those who need it most, particularly the vulnerable and underserved populations in our communities,” said Johnson. “On behalf of all of us at ASAP 340B, I extend our sincere thanks to Rep. Bucshon for his commitment to putting the 340B program on a sustainable path for the future so it benefits patients and true safety-net providers.”
“I am honored to accept the Saving America’s 340B Program Leadership Award. Health care providers like Valley Professionals Community Health Center depend on the 340B program to help them provide care to Hoosiers in Southern and West Central Indiana, which is why I support the 340B program and its mission to help low-income and other vulnerable patients access more affordable medicines,” said Congressman Bucshon. “It is our job in Congress to advance solutions to ensure the long-term viability of the 340B program so entities like the Valley Professionals Community Health Center can continue their important mission.”
The event included a tour of Valley Professionals CHC’s recently opened clinic in West Terre Haute with Julia Ketner, Indiana Primary Health Care Association (IPHCA) Policy Director and TJ Warren, Valley Professionals CHC CEO. In addition to touring the new facility, Bucshon and Johnson heard patient stories and provider perspectives during a roundtable discussion.
“Without Congressional action to restore the integrity of the 340B program, the well-being of Indiana communities served by our country’s health care safety-net is at stake. We are grateful for Rep. Bucshon’s leadership on behalf of Community Health Centers and the 340B program. His actions demonstrate our shared values of promoting accessible, high-quality health care for all Hoosiers, especially our most vulnerable populations,” added Ben Harvey, CEO of IPHCA.
“Over the course of 15 years, we have grown from our first clinic in Clinton to eight community health centers and a mobile school-based health center across Montgomery, Parke, Vermillion, and Vigo counties. The need for community-based, comprehensive, and integrated health care in Indiana has never been greater. The 340B program is vital for centers like ours and we are fortunate to have champions, like Rep. Bucshon, working in Congress to realign the program so it is sustainable for true safety-net providers like us,” concluded TJ Warren, CEO of Valley Professionals CHC.
